Abstract

This document has been prepared to examine the complex relationship between development administration and labor rights. The tension between promoting economic growth and protecting workers' rights constitutes a central problem. The overall objective is to analyze the possibilities and limitations of institutional theory as a framework for the defense of labor rights. The methodology developed is based on a critical analysis of institutional theory, including its key concepts and its application to the context of development administration. The existing literature is reviewed, and development policies and strategies, as well as ethical challenges involved, are examined. The main results indicate that institutional theory offers a valuable perspective, but it has limitations in its capacity to address power dynamics and institutional complexity. The need to complement this approach with others to achieve a more comprehensive understanding is discussed. In conclusion, the essay reaffirms the utility of institutional theory, but it emphasizes the importance of a critical analysis of its limitations for an effective defense of labor rights, promoting a development model that harmonizes economic growth with social justices.
