Abstract

In this study, the behavior of the Ecuadorian economic cycle is analyzed with respect to the components of economic activity, oil revenues, and remittances sent from abroad for the period 2000-2021. To carry it out, the Baxter-King filter was used and compared with the results obtained through the Hodrick-Prescott filter. Among the main results, it is evident that consumption, public spending, investment, exports, imports, and oil revenues show a procyclical behavior, while remittances show a contrary behavior. Finally, in the temporality analysis, the results differ in the filters, however, the Baxter-King filter adheres better to economic theory.
