VEHICLE RENTAL COMPANIES IN THE CONTEXT OF COVID-19 AND ITS IMPACT ON FINANCIAL INDICATORS IN AZUAY

Abstract

The COVID-19 Pandemic caused severe consequences in the economic sector, due to mobility restrictions leading to a decrease
in the profitability of companies, with vehicle rental being one of the most affected by the reduction in tourist visits. Therefore,
the objective of the research was to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on the financial indicators in the main car rental
companies in Azuay. For this, a quantitative investigation was carried out using the number of infected and financial indicators
as a health indicator using the Dupont system based on the analysis of financial balances, in the case of paired samples before
and after COVID, the data was analyzed using a T-test of Student, while to compare the behavior between companies, a
Tukey mean multiple comparison test was applied, considering the probability value of P<0.05, the result obtained being
that COVID-19 negatively affected economic performance. of some companies, observing a decrease of up to 1.18% in the
capital invested by shareholders (ROA) and 0.04% in the total return on assets of companies (ROE); as well as the current
liquidity down to 0.09, the debt capacity to 0.67% and the indebtedness by equity and capital was reduced to 0.08 and 7.38%
respectively, for which economic recovery measures must be generated in those companies with negative financial indicators
such as the gradual opening of borders for the activation of the tourism sector, debt restructuring with both public and private
banks, granting of credits and payment facilities for tax and labor obligations.
